Leak

Here’s the text to the listening from yesterday.

A Boeing 737-800, with 111 people on board, began its preparations for takeoff as normal. While it was climbing out of its airport of origin the crew stopped the climb after reaching FL100 because there was leaking water on the cabin floor. The passengers reported this to the flight attendants and the pilots decided to return to their airport of origin as a precaution.

Flaps problem

A 747-400, was climbing out of its airport of origin when the crew noticed something strange. They stopped the climb at FL130 for about 15 minutes, then continued the climb to FL220, then entered a hold for another 20 minutes. The captain decided to return to their airport of origin due to problems with the flaps. The aircraft descended and entered another hold. After that it begin a high-speed approach to land. It touched down on the runway at about 50 knots faster than normal, but was able to roll out safely. Emergency services were positioned close to the runway but weren’t needed.

Partial gear up landing

A Fokker 100, with 97 people on board, was on approach to its destination when the left main gear didn’t extend properly. As a result, the crew decided to abort the approach and enter a holding pattern to consider their options. They tried to lower the gear a few more times but they weren’t able to, and eventually they decided to perform a partial gear up landing. Their approach was normal, but after the plane touched down it veered to the right and onto the grass. It stopped about 50m onto the grass. There were 5 minor injuries and 3 serious injuries, non of the flight crew were injured but the plane was substantially damaged.

Landing gear smoke

A Boeing 777 approached its destination and landed safely on runway 21. As the plane taxied to the apron the tower advised the pilots that they could see smoke coming from the right main gear. The plane stopped on a taxiway and the fire services sprayed the right main gear with foam. After checking the plane they discovered a hydraulic leak which was dripping onto the right main gear and causing the smoke. The plane continued to taxi to the apron and the passengers disembarked without a delay.

Misunderstood

Here’s the text to the listening from yesterday.

An old 747 was taxiing for departure. The crew had clearance to line up and wait but before the crew were able to line up they had a problem. The nose gear of the plane was off the paved area of the runway and they couldn’t move the plane. The first officer contacted the tower to request a tug to help them, but the controller said, ‘roger, hold short of the runway’. The first officer repeated his problem and the second time, the controller said, ‘roger, line up and wait’. The first officer explained the problem a third time and finally the controller understood the problem and he diverted another plane on final approach. Within two hours the plane was removed from its position and could take off, but many flights were diverted before the runway was cleared.

Suspicious device

An A330 was on approach to Manchester airport from Doha when the crew received a warning about a suspicious device on the plane. A military jet was sent to follow the plane on its approach to Manchester airport. The plane landed safely and taxied to a remote area for emergency services to check the plane. The airport was closed for safety reasons. Some time later a passenger was arrested for making a bomb hoax threat, but the other passengers were allowed to leave the airport and the airport opened again for landings and departures.
