Smoke with your coffee?

Here’s the text to the listening from yesterday.

Enjoy!!

A Boeing 767-300, with 200 passengers and 10 crew, was cruising at FL 360 when smoke started coming from the galley. The cabin crew disconnected the galley power and then sprayed fire extinguishers into the galley to put out any possible fire. After a few minutes the smoke started to disappear. The flight crew decided to return to their airport of origin, where the aircraft landed safely about 45 minutes after taking off. After checking the plane, maintenance discovered that a coffee machine had a technical problem which caused the smoke. Because of duty time limitations, the flight had to be cancelled and passengers were moved onto other flights.

Fire precaution

Here’s the text to the listening from yesterday.

Enjoy!!

A 767, with 220 passengers and 10 crew, was en route at FL340 over the Atlantic, when the crew turned the plane around and diverted to an alternative airport due to smoke in the cockpit, which came from a lavatory fire. The crew had to perform an overweight landing and stopped on a taxiway next to the runway. Emergency services checked the plane’s tyres for damage, and checked the plane for the source of the fire. They found no smoke in the cockpit and only a little in the lavatory. The passengers were transferred to another flight and continued their journey.

Here’s the text to the listening from yesterday.

Enjoy!!

A 737-800, with 185 people on board, was en route at FL340 about halfway to its destination when an oven in the rear galley started to vent smoke. The smoke came from the back and the sides of the oven. The circuit breaker for the oven was automatically tripped and the smoke started to disappear. The flight crew didn’t need to use the fire extinguishers. The aircraft continued to its destination for a safe landing but the oven had to be replaced.
