Runway leak

Here’s the text to the listening from yesterday.

Enjoy!!

A flight with 213 people on board was descending into its destination when the crew began to suspect that they had a fuel leak. They reported it to ATC but continued their approach as normal. After landing ATC confirmed a liquid, most likely fuel, was leaking from engine no.1. The pilots shut down the engine and continued to taxi to the apron. The passengers disembarked and mechanics investigated the problem. The runway had to be cleaned before other flights could land.

Aviation Week flies the A350 answers

Here are the answers to last Friday’s video, enjoy!

Suggested ICAO level for video: 5+

  1. It’s the fastest, highest flying, largest capacity and longest range twin-engine plane they have ever built.
  2. It has about 2 degrees more sweep than the A330 and with the curved winglet and other features, it keeps the aircraft flying very smoothly at .85 Mach.
  3. It’s the preferred cruise speed for long-range aircraft.
  4. Each engine produces 84,200lbs of thrust.
  5. To name a few things, It has six displays in the panel, optional head-up displays, left and right side-sticks (which don’t provide tactile or visual feedback of the other pilot’s inputs). It has centrally located thrust levers and keyboard and cursor control devices.
  6. The plane was at 75% of its maximum takeoff weight so they used reduced thrust to save engine wear.
  7. It’s going to give Boeing’s best planes some tough competition.
