Structure: ‘-ed vs -ing adjectives’

This time in our structure help we talk about the difference between ‘-ed’ and ‘-ing’ adjectives, so for example, the different between tired and tiring. There aren’t a lot of adjectives in English with two forms, but most of the adjectives with two forms are common so it’s important to know about them and their differences.

Look at the diagram below for an explanation and then try to write some examples of your own. Below is a list of 10 of the most common adjectives with these two forms.

interested – interesting
bored – boring
tired – tiring
surprised – surprising
embarrassed – embarrassing
shocked – shocking
excited – exciting
satisfied – satisfying
confused – confusing
annoyed – annoying
