Overheating

Here’s the text to the listening from yesterday.

Enjoy!!

An ATR-72 cargo plane, was performing a flight in Texas (US) and was lined up and waiting for departure on the runway when the pilots decided to return to the apron due to a system malfunction. During the taxi back to the apron , the pilots saw smoke start to come from the left main gear.

When the aircraft stopped on the stand a large quantity of smoke started coming from the left main gear tyres and they burst because of the heat. Emergency services sprayed foam on them and the smoke stopped.

The two pilots successfully shut down the engines and left the plane without injury.

Wingtip touches runway

Here’s the text to the listening from yesterday.

Enjoy!!

While landing at their destination, the crew of an Embraer 145 reported that they were having difficulty controlling their rudder. They had to continue their landing because they were very close to the ground, approximately 50ft off the ground. They made a hard landing on the left main gear. A few seconds after that, the right main gear touched down and the plane slowed down on the runway as normal.
A report by maintenance workers found that the right wingtip had scraped along the ground while landing and that repairs were necessary.
