The high tech tools searching for MH370

Here’s a video describing the high tech tools being used to search for MH370.

See below the video for the full text.

Have a great weekend!!

“The hunt for missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 is growing ever more high tech. To narrow down the search zone, a device called a pinger locator is lowered into the water and pulled behind a ship. When a ping from the jet’s black box is detected, a signal is transmitted up the tow cable where searchers can hear it and judge its strength. They do this over and over to triangulate the location of the black box. Once the location is confirmed, a robotic mini-sub will be deployed. The robosub sweeps the sea floor with sonar pulses identifying objects below and creating a visual map of the crash site. If an accurate site is ever identified a remotely-operated submersible will be sent to the sea floor to collect materials.”

Cabin crew fall

Here’s the text to the listening from yesterday.

Enjoy!!

An Embraer ERJ-190, was performing a short-haul flight from Washington to New York. The pilots were ready to depart and the tug was pushing the plane back from the gate when the aircraft suddenly stopped. Two flight attendants onboard were unbalanced by the sudden stop and fell. Both suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital as a precaution.

The aircraft was able to depart 90 minutes later when replacement flight attendants arrived and it reached its destination 70 minutes late.

3D printed plane

Here’s an interesting TED talk about Airbus’ concept for the future of the plane and how it could be designed and built.

Have a great weekend!!

Bastian Schaefer: A 3D-printed jumbo jet?

Designer Bastian Schaefer shows off a speculative design for the future of jet planes, with a skeleton inspired by strong, flexible, natural forms and by the needs of the world's, ahem, growing population. Imagine an airplane that's full of light and space -- and built up from generative parts in a 3D printer.

Pressurization loss

Here’s the text to the listening from yesterday.

Enjoy!!

An Airbus A319, flying from France to UK was climbing through FL220 about 40nm northwest of Paris when the crew initiated an emergency descent to FL090 due to problems with the cabin pressure. The aircraft turned around and returned to Paris for a safe landing on runway 09R about 35 minutes later.

A replacement plane was available 60 minutes later to restart the flight.
